Sleep Training

Who sleeps like this?

Little C is now 8 months old. Some of my girlfriends who recently had babies and who are 3-4 months old now are asking me what I did to get Little C sleeping through the night. I tell them that I first bought the book Baby Wise. Well, yes I bought the book but I didn't read any of it. I had every intention of reading but I didn't need to...see below...

We went to his 8 week old appointment and our ped told us that he should have enough food in his tummy and weighs enough that he should sleep through the night. She also told us not to go in his room and to just let him cry it out.  Sounds easy enough for me, but I knew it wasnt going to be that easy.  I have heard horror stories of couples 4 year old still not sleeping through the night.

So of course we were hesitant about the whole process, but, that night we put him in his room and told him goodnight, put on his amazing sound machine (I swear by this thing!), and pushed his seahorse and left the room. He cried for less then 5 minutes (which broke my heart and it took every fiber in my being to not go in there) and he slept for 12 hours!

Im not trying to brag or anything (ok, yes I am :) ) but we have the best sleeping baby ever! He has slept every night for 11-12 hours since he was 8 weeks old. I think he has woken up in the middle night once and that was because he was sick.

We put him in his crib and do his nightly ritual of rubbing his tummy, telling him how much we love him, putting the sound maching on and playing his seahorse and he goes to sleep right away. I will go in his room 5-15 minutes after we put him down and he is fast asleep like a little angel!

He gets sleeping so good from his mama. I can sleep anytime and anywhere if you let me.
So when my girlfriends ask me how I sleep trained Little C, I kinda just laugh and tell him not to ask me because he has been sleeping through the night at 8 weeks. My girlfriends are so jealous :) I am one lucky mama.

O my goodness your super lucky. My 7 month old still wakes up... However its not really her fault she has super bad reflux so some days she would refuse to eat all day, and the pedi said to wake up and dream feed her to keep up with fluids, which of course got her used to getting up at night

You are so lucky! My baby still gets up twice at night. What sound machine do you have?

So jealous. Our son is just about 8 weeks old and other than 3 nights where he did 7 hour stretches, he is getting up every 2-6 hours, depending on the night. I have a feeling we're toast tonight because we put him down at 9:30, so I just wasted 45 minutes when I could be sleeping. Ahhh.

So funny Cheryl! I have a draft of a post entitled Sleep Training that I am going to post in the next couple of days. It's the best thing we ever did with Seth. I couldn't function if he wasn't such a good sleeper!! Yay for sleeping babies!

Isn't it just amazing how they seem perfectly able to sleep in nearly any position? I am a huge fan of sleep training and we began with GG when she was between 3 and 4 months. It was a life saver too, by the fourth night, she was self soothing and sleeping well through the night! Thank Heaven for small miracles, right?!
